‘6S’ helps units organize Published Nov. 2, 2011 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs Scott Air Force Base, Ill. -- The 375th AMW will be holding a wing-wide 6S event starting on Monday. Units are asked to complete their 6S activities within a two-week window, Nov. 7-18. Schedule a "fit it in" as they can, but provide results to their group deputy commander by Nov. 23. 6S is defined as: Sort - Identify and remove unwanted stuff Straighten - Organize all areas involved Shine - Clean, polish and refresh processes, programs Standardize - Repeatable and consistent Sustain - Monitor and follow up Safety - Free of hazards ... always! The main areas units should focus on when conducting 6S in their areas are: · Work centers · Safety hazard reduction · Facility space and utilization · Inventory supply consolidation · Offices · Facility space and utilization · Program and process management · IT equipment utilization · Recycling · Virtual space · Virtual space improvement The benefits of 6S are: · Creates an efficient and productive work area; · Eliminates waste and workplace clutter; · Recapitalizes equipment and supplies; and · Enables directive compliance.
