Scott spouses club donates dresses to Cinderella Project Published Jan. 18, 2012 By Staff Sgt. Stephenie Wade 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- For some St. Louis teen girls, the only thing preventing them from attending their high school prom is a dress of their dreams. To help these girls, the Scott Air Force Base Enlisted Spouses' Club donated 50 dresses to the Metro St. Louis Cinderella Project, Dec. 13, a non-profit organization that provides teen girls with new or slightly used dresses. "They've never been able to attend a prom because they weren't able to afford the dress to go with it," said Diane Wolferding, Cinderella Project Development and Community Relations. "And that's where the Metro St. Louis Cinderella Project waves its magic wand." This is the second year the spouses' group has donated dresses to the Cinderella Project. The new and used gowns were collected for five months before the donation. "We began collecting dresses for women who needed a dress for the Air Force Ball in September 2011, but with the dresses left over we decided to pay it forward and donate them to the Cinderella Project," said ESC Vice President Lagea Mull. "It's a win-win situation." The Metro St. Louis Cinderella Project will distribute these donated dresses to junior and senior high school girls who have been recommended to the council by high school teachers and counselors. "Because every girl is that Cinderella, and we're just helping that happen," said Wolferding. "The referred girls get VIP treatment, 'Very Important Prom-goers,' and come in for an individual appointment where they get to pick a dress. We also provide alterations, hairdos and girlie goodies to help make their prom a memorable event." The Cinderella Project is still looking for dresses of all shapes, sizes, lengths and colors. Dresses for donation should be clean and on a hanger. For more information or to volunteer visit the website: www.cinderellaSTL.org.
