The Belleville Police Department presented the Chief Master Sgt. Gene R. Collins Airman's Attic with a $1450 donation Friday.

Col. Bill Clay, Belleville Police chief, said the department last year thought of many ways to support the Airman's Attic.

"My wife Shenita who works at 3rd Manpower Requirements Squadron here at Scott introduced me to 1st Lt. Jason Myl, also with 3rd MRS at the time, at their office holiday party," said Clay. "The police department started collecting items for the Airman's Attic and Lt. Myl would pick them up and drop them off for us, but we wanted to do more.

"We finally decided to do an internal collection and we raised $1450," Clay said.

As former Airmen, Clay and his wife Shenita understand the military lifestyle, the sacrifices made by servicemembers and the challenges young enlisted men and women face.

Clay said he and his department plan to continue helping the men and women at Scott Air Force Base.

Col. Michael Hornitschek, 375th Air Mobility Wing commander, said, "Thank you, Col. Clay and the Belleville Police Department for this very generous donation. It may seem like a small thing, but when our enlisted come to a point where they have to make a reenlistment decision it's the support they get that often is the deciding factor. Things like the Airman's Attic mean a lot to our enlisted troops and your department's donation goes a long way to show them people care and want the best for them."
