Airmen now operate the Fitness Assessment Cell

The next time you go to take your physical fitness test, you may notice something different. Rest assured, the test has not changed, but the fitness assessment cell staff has.

The FAC is now staffed with Airmen from the 375th Force Support Squadron. This is due to recent cuts in civilian manning that deleted five of those civilian positions. Under Air Force direction, civilian FAC positions were abolished across the Air Force and the duties will revert to active duty military.

"Each base is conducting the FAC their own way, but we are using our manning to run the FAC since it is similar to their duties as fitness specialists," said Lt. Col. Benji Jackson, 375th FSS commander.

"Other bases will have units augment the FAC on a rotational basis, but our way allows us to be more consistent with our customers," said Jackson. "Scott's way provides direct control and minimize possible disputes."

The new FAC staff shadowed the former staff and received the same training. They were also certified by the base exercise physiologist.

Senior Airman Cherelle Labove, 375th FSS, said, "The civilians taught us the procedures, tips on how to do things and what to look out for. We have to do the right thing all the time because from general to slick sleeve, all eyes are on us to set the example. We have to be fair; this is someone's career."

Labove is one of four military members who run the test.

"This ensures fairness and continuity," said Jackson.

Another new feature to the FAC is a standard Air Force instructional video on test procedures, so every Airman across the world views the same video. A live demonstration is also done during the test.
