Scott will undergo information assurance inspection Published March 7, 2012 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- From March 12-23 the Air Force will conduct the Information Assurance Assessment and Assistance Program, or IAAP, inspection at Scott Air Force Base to assess wing Information Assurance, or IA, programs. The focus of the inspection will be in the areas of Communications Security, Computer Security, Emission Security, Information Assurance Management, and inspecting COMSEC, Secure Voice, and IA programs across assigned Air Force units and Air Mobility Command headquarters directorates. The 375th Communications Squadron has exercised due diligence by conducting staff assistance visits throughout the year and the period leading up to the inspection. However, a large portion of the grade will be on traditional and physical security measures that all NIPRNET and SIPRNET users should be following. In essence, they are assessing the culture of compliance within the installation. Key things to remember include never leaving Common Access Cards unattended and always protecting personally identifiable information. Team Scott members should also refrain from plugging unauthorized personal electronic devices into the computer, like MP3 players, and be mindful of physical security, such as keeping classified information secured--proper labeling of magnetic media and printed products with appropriate classifications is the key to success. Members are reminded to sign-off on Standard Form 701 for the end-of-day checklist and Standard Form 702 whenever security containers are accessed and secured. Finally, Team Scott members should not shutdown their NIPRNet computers each night, but instead, log off, as patches and updates are loaded after hours--keeping the computer locked or off will prevent the system from processing these updates. SIPRNET computers have other update requirements, and users need to work with their IA for information. The inspection teams will be going into organizations and specific work areas, so being mindful of security during this time is especially important. While good security practices are important during inspections, it is a culture of compliance that ensures mission assurance. Remember that a risk taken by one is a risk assumed by all.
