Airman and Family Readiness Center hosts job fair Published April 18, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Jake Eckhardt 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The Airman and Family Readiness Center hosted its 6th Annual Job Fair at the Scott Club April 12 at Scott Air Force Base. The job fair is designed to help the Team Scott community seek employment by introducing them to representatives from hiring businesses. "The economy is tight, and jobs are scarce," said Rose Hill, AFRC community readiness consultant. "This was a chance for anyone on Scott to meet with potential employers." There were 58 local, regional and national employers at the event with more than 500 job positions available to more than 400 participants at the fair. "We have employers returning year after year because of the great veterans, spouses and family members," Hill said. Many of the employers return because they have seen how many of the job fields in the Air Force can relate to their company in one way or another. Lisa Bailey, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis representative, said, "We realize the Air Force has a lot of security and IT needs. We come back because the Air Force has the skill sets we need. There is a lot great leadership that a lot of the companies here come for as well as the security focus that only the military has." In the past six years, the job fair has potentially helped more than 2,400 members of Team Scott. Senior Master Sgt. Leonard Ratajczyk, 375th Air Mobility Wing, said, "My experience with the job fair was much better than I thought it was going to be. Next year I plan on retiring, and there are a lot of opportunities. The folks are really helpful, and you don't have to try that hard to put yourself out there. It's a good feeling."
