Health fair promotes physical, mental well-being Published May 16, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Joshua Eikren 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The 375th Force Support Squadron hosted a free health fair at the James Gym Friday at Scott Air Force Base. The health fair was open to active duty, Guard, Reserve, civilian employees, retirees and contractors. "The purpose of the health fair was to share information to help improve the overall health of the Scott community," said Master Sgt. Wade Washom, 375th FSS fitness and sports superintendent. The event brings groups of health and fitness professionals together to benefit Team Scott in a convenient way. "The Health Fair is currently scheduled as an annual event and as long as the event is well received, we will continue to host it," said Washom. The fair included 43 vendors, from the 375th Medical Squadron to off base hospital personnel, who provided free screenings. Healthy food and drinks were also available. Glendora Brock, 375th FSS fitness program manager, said, "The fair was focused on bringing awareness to the base. Vendors like TRICARE for example, who some people might have trouble getting ahold of, were in attendance to give customers attention." Along with TRICARE there were different medical groups that gave people an opportunity to get screenings, such as cholesterol tests. Washom said, "The overall focus of the health fair is to promote a well rounded healthy lifestyle in all areas of our lives, not only physically, but mentally as well. I think the health fair is becoming increasingly important in today's Air Force culture." There were also fitness instructors for proper exercising, nutritionists to give guidance on a balanced diet, and mental health professionals with resiliency information. "During the last year or so the term resiliency has become an everyday word in our Air Force vocabulary," said Washom. "The health fair is all about using as many tools as we can to help those we serve stay resilient."
