Annual Salute to Scott event is Saturday in O’Fallon

The City of O'Fallon, the Village of Shiloh, and the O'Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee will host the 18th Annual Salute to Scott AFB from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the O'Fallon Community Park located at 308 E. Fifth St.
The goal of this event is to show appreciation for Scott Air Force Base personnel and their families, and to continue to strengthen that relationship.

Free hot dogs, chips, and soda will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Various area restaurants will also provide samples and coupons throughout the day. The O'Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a business expo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The expo features displays from more than 40 local businesses.

There are many family activities planned. There will be pony rides, rock climbing wall, inflated jumping balloons, fireman's pole, and stagecoach and antique fire engine rides. Events include the O'Fallon Police and EMS display as well as a military working dog demonstration at 11:30 a.m. Illinois Kids will perform from 12-1 p.m., and Rough Riders will perform 1-1:45 p.m. The highlight of the day will be the making of a huge banana split at 2 p.m.

Register for attendance prizes at the information booth from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and attendance prizes for adults and children will be awarded throughout the day. The children's bikes will be awarded at 2:15 p.m. Winners must be present for the bikes.
There will be free family swimming for those attending. A limited number of arm bands will be available at the information booth.

People associated with Scott Air Force Base and O'Fallon and Shiloh residents are encouraged to attend.
