The Department of Defense and the Air Force recently updated the points system on traffic citations for military installations including Scott Air Force Base.

"The new regulations give a point value to violations that previously didn't have points," said Scott Beckmann, 375th Security Forces Squadron administration and reports chief.

The traffic points system is an enforced measure on DoD installations that assess point values to specific traffic violations and counts against a person's driving record.

"Drivers will lose installation driving privileges for a period of one year if they accumulate 12 points within a 12 month period or 18 points within a 24 month period," said Beckmann. "Also, drivers may have their privileges suspended for flagrant or habitual violations of the base parking plan."

The policy became effective May 9.

"The changes now assess a point value on some violations that previously had no point value such as parking, failure to yield to pedestrian in cross walk, unattended child or pet in a vehicle when danger exists, and an unattended vehicle with the engine running," said Beckmann.

The 375th SFS have implemented the updates and are enforcing the new policy.
