Scott receives Outstanding Inclusive Employer Award Published Aug. 14, 2018 By Senior Airman Cheyenne Larkin 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The Accommodation for Success Board presented the Outstanding Inclusive Employer Award for St. Clair County to Scott Air Force Base during a ceremony Aug. 9 in St. Peters, Missouri. The award recognizes Scott’s work with Challenge Unlimited for being an organization that has demonstrated willingness to not only hire employees with disabilities, but also to work with community based-organizations to ensure that those employees are successful. Although Scott has been the No. 1 employer of those with disabilities in the North Central Region for years, this is the first time the base has been nominated and won the award. Challenge Unlimited’s mission statement is to help people with disabilities find meaningful work and have been working with Scott AFB for 25 years. They employ approximately 150 people—of which more than half have disabilities. “We feel we are the custodial contractor of choice,” said Crawley. “We perform all the grounds maintenance, as well as stock the commissary and work in a variety of food service areas.” Jennifer Trudeau, Challenge Unlimited public relations specialist, said “There’s never been a moment that Scott Air Force Base has not treated each and every individual with respect and patience.” Cliff Beasley, 375th Contracting Squadron goods and services flight chief, said the work Challenge employees do affects all 13,000 people who work on Scott AFB in one way or another, and that they are a vital part of the base community and mission. He said Scott AFB is proud to have received the award, but also recognizes the real value in the relationship with Challenge. “They service every building on this base,” he said. “They do all the grounds maintenance. We’re not doing this for awards,” he said. “We’re doing it because we know what a great partnership this is.”
