Squadron hosts Bring Your Child to Work Day Published Aug. 15, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Jake Eckhardt 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The 375th Civil Engineer Squadron brought their families to the civil engineer compound for Bring Your Child to Work Day Aug. 10. "We wanted to have a family event that showed the families what we did," said Lt. Col. John Schuliger, 375th CES commander. "Everyone knows what a fire truck is, but they don't know what the rest of CE does." The event offered the children opportunities to explore some of the vehicles that the squadron operates, such as a humvee, fire truck, bucket truck, and snowplow. The children also got to see what tools the squadron uses on a daily basis. Bring Your Child to Work Day also gave leadership within the squadron a chance to talk to the families and create a bond with them. "This event really helped us connect as key spouses," said Megan Schuliger, CE Key Spouse. "We wanted to build those relationships, because if they need something then we wanted them to feel comfortable to contact us." The squadron tries to have a family oriented event every quarter. "We had this idea in the works for a while now," said Megan. "There was a lot of hurtles to jump over." Coordinating between the different shops to find manpower, trying to find time on their schedule and trying to find a way to interact with the families were just a few of the obstacles. "Work doesn't stop for these events," the CE commander said. "We have a lot of projects going on, but considering how many people came out and seeing how much fun the children had, I think it was a success."
