Airmen prepare for exercise Published Oct. 3, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Jake Eckhardt 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Scott Air Force Base Airmen are preparing for an upcoming Operational Readiness Exercise Oct. 10-18 on base. "Having this ORE makes sure we are ready to deploy mobility airpower in any environment," said Maj. Scott Russell, 375th Air Mobility Wing chief, exercises and inspections. "This includes personnel from various units around base, all maintaining objectives unique to their career fields to accomplish their operational war time mission but sharing one goal--mission success." The exercise will be split up into two parts or phases. Phase I focuses on the position of force, which includes personnel and cargo processing. Phase II involves wartime operations. The largest area of focus during the ORE is the ability to survive and operate in wartime conditions. Mona Bonick, 375th AMW deputy chief, exercises and inspections said, "The OREs give wing commanders a picture of how prepared units are to employ their forces. The upcoming exercise is internal and will be inspected by exercise evaluation team members from all units within the wing. They will be checking units ensuring they are able to process their people and equipment, and that unit members can survive and operate during contingency and wartime operations. Throughout the exercise, the "deployed forces" will have to put into practice all the training they have received in order to continue to accomplish the mission in the face of degraded communications, enemy attacks, CBRN contamination, and destroyed facilities. "The ORE has been designed to emulate the Operational Readiness Inspection as closely as possible," said Russell. The upcoming Operational Readiness Inspection is scheduled to take place in June 2013.
