Michael Maybin Jr. Relay Race honors sergeant from Scott Published Oct. 10, 2012 By Staff Sgt. Stephenie Wade 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Team Scott members kicked off Cyber Security Awareness Month with an inaugural race honoring a former communications member during the Michael Maybin Jr. Relay Race Oct. 2. Tech. Sgt. Michael Maybin Jr. was a former member assigned to the 375th Communications Support Squadron working in the Air Mobility Command Communications Coordination Center. He passed away in February unexpectedly. Master Sgt. Trenton Musel, 375th Communications Group, AMC data manager, with the help of Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Associations and communication personnel, organized the relay. "The intent was to do something other than the typical 5K race as well as make it a team event," said Musel. "The format was based on the George G. Mattar Memorial Relay Race hosted annually at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla." More than 100 members participated. This year's top military performers were: First Place: Team Terabit from 38th Cyberspace Readiness Squadron with time of 40:30. Second Place: Team Vicious and Delicious from the 375th Communications Support Squadron with time of 42:28. Third Place: Team Dragons from the 375th Communications Squadron with time of 42:51. "The race was a great way to honor a former cyber professional's memory and give the relay race more meaning." The Communications Group hopes to continue the race in the future.
