Mascoutah Gate closing to morning traffic, starts Jan. 22 Published Jan. 9, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Joshua Eikren 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Effective Jan. 22, morning vehicle traffic along Illinois State Route 161 near the Lincolns Landing housing area will no longer have access to Scott Air Force Base through the Old Mascoutah Gate located on Charles Lane between 6 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. "Of the majority of the 10,000 vehicles that pass through the gates each morning during peak times, less than 300 come through Mascoutah," said Lt. Col. Alan Fiel, 375 Security Forces Squadron commander. Currently augmentees are being used to supplement the gates during the peak times at 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Morning travelers are encouraged to enter through the Belleville Gate located on County Road 1845/Scott Drive or Cardinal Creek Gate located on the northeast side of Scott from Pryor Drive. "We decided that manpower would be best redirected to the other gates," Fiel said.
