Airmen learn life lessons from motivational speaker Published Jan. 30, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Joshua Eikren 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Airmen attending the 375th Air Mobility Wing commander's call got a life lesson from someone who's overcome a lot of challenges in his own life. That man was John Foppe. Foppe is a public speaker from Breese, Ill., who was born without arms. He is a motivational speaker who talks about the human condition and his experiences with how he manages his day to day. He has received a master of social work degree, worked for pro-football organizations and Fortune 500 clients such as Boeing, GE, and State Farm. He recently visited Scott during the TEDx event May 30, 2012. Foppe demonstrated how he manages his condition by pouring a glass of water and drinking it while using just his foot. He believes the capability of a person is not reliant on what they have or don't have available to them. Instead, he believes that making things happen is determined by the person and their value, vision and valor. "Foppe's speech was inspiring and powerful," said Airman 1st Class Matt Beverst, 375th Communications Squadron. "He motivated us as Air Force personnel to recognize the job we do and help appreciate it." The commander brought Foppe in for motivation to help the wing focus on recognizing and overcoming challenges that Airmen face. See video of Foppe's TEDx speech at www.tedxscottafb.com.
