Healthy heart tips Published Feb. 13, 2013 Courtesy of 375th Medical Group SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- February is Heart Health Month and while heart disease may be a leading cause of death, that doesn't mean people have to accept it as their fate. Although some lack the power to change some risk factors--such as family history, gender or age--there are some easy prevention steps people can take. Individuals can avoid heart problems in the future by adopting a healthy lifestyle today. Here are five heart disease prevention tips to begin with. 1. Don't smoke or use tobacco. 2. Exercise for 30 minutes on most days of the week. 3. Eat a heart-healthy diet. 4. Maintain a healthy weight. 5. Get regular health screenings.
