Many people eligible for legal assistance on base

The base legal office offers legal assistance to not only servicemembers, but to dependents of active duty personnel, who are entitled to an identification card. The following is a non-exhaustive list of those eligible for legal assistance:

- Active duty military (from any armed forces branch)

- Reservists, National Guard members and contract Reserve Officers' Training Corps cadets on federal active duty under Title 10 U.S.C.

- Air Reserve Component members performing Active Guard/Reserve tours

- Retired military members (including those who retired due to disability)

- Active Duty/Retired Officers of the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service 

- Reservists who have been on active duty for more than 30 days, but had since been released, are eligible for legal assistance for a period of time equal to twice the length of the period that they served on active duty (Bring a copy of orders to the legal office to verify eligibility)

- Civilian employees who are deploying may come in for legal assistance, limited to the preparation of wills and powers of attorney

- Civilian contractor personnel who are deploying and produce documentation of the contract that requires the government to give the contractor's employee legal assistance (limited to wills and deployment related powers of attorney)
- Inactive Reservists or National Guard members may obtain mobilization and deployment related legal assistance, including wills, advance medical directives, powers of attorney, protections and responsibilities under the Soldiers' and Sailors' Civil Relief Act and Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act and notary services

- Civilian employees of the DoD and the military departments assigned outside the United States and its territories and their dependents residing with them 

- Foreign military personnel, and their dependents, assigned to the U.S. under official orders for purposes of combined missions with U.S. personnel and for training in programs sponsored by the U.S. (Limited to domestic law issues like landlord-tenant, consumer affairs, driver's licenses, tax relief and similar assistance) 

- Estate representative of a fallen service member

Are you deploying?

The highest priority is given to Air Force personnel who need mobilization or deployment-related legal assistance, especially those being deployed on short notice. If you are deploying, please notify legal office front desk staff. They are prepared to provide deployment specific guidance, including special powers of attorney, allowing you to focus on the mission downrange.
