Information on Storm Damage Claims Published April 18, 2013 By By Capt Amanda Snipes 375th Legal Office Scott Air Force Base, Ill. -- For those affected by the storms at Scott Air Force Base on 18 April 2013, if you have a claims question related to property damage or if you wish to file a claim, you can visit the Air Force Claims Service Center website (https://claims.jag.af.mil), visit the Air Force Claims Service Center's Facebook page or call them at DSN 986-8044, commercial (937) 656-8044, or (877) 754-1212. Keep in mind that you will have to file a property damage claim with your private insurer before you file your property damage claim with the Air Force. If you suffered loss or damage to your personal property as a result of the storm on 18 April 2013, you can file a claim with the Air Force Claims Service Center if: a. The property was located on base or in your Government assigned quarters when it was damaged; and b. You are a proper claimant under the Personnel Claims Act. A proper claimant is an active duty member, a reservist on active duty, or a civilian employee of the Air Force. If you have private insurance covering your loss, you must make a demand against your private insurance carrier and include a copy of the insurance settlement and submit it with your claims package. If the damages total an amount less than your deductible, you simply need to attach a current copy of your declaration page of your insurance policy showing the deductible. You can request an emergency advance in the amount of your insurance deductible. You must provide a copy of the claim you filed with your private insurance carrier. To file your claim with the Air Force Claims Service Center, simply go to their website: https://claims.jag.af.mil, then click on "File Non Household Goods Claim" tab and follow the prompts. If you have questions, simply call them or refer to the "Frequently Asked Questions" link in the top left corner of their webpage. To file a claim, you will need the following documentation: 1. Photographs of the items and their damages 2. Repair estimates 3. Replacement costs 4. Insurance declaration letter 5. Orders and any amendments 6. DD Form 1842 and DD Form 1844 (for mail-in claims ONLY) 7. If your vehicle was damaged, you will also need to include: a. Title or registration b. Witness statement to establish location of your vehicle when it was damaged c. Inspection report If you are a member or an employee of another service, your claim should be filed with your respective service's military claims office.
