Small fee for using pool on base this year

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. --  Outdoor Recreation will open the Fitness Center Pool Friday at 1 p.m. The pool is open to all DoD card holders and their guests.

Lisa Timmerman, 375th Force Support Squadron marketing director, said, "With budget cuts across the Air Force, there will be a fee for swimming this season, which is $3 daily or $2 for Scott Club card members."

Douglas Hartung, Outdoor Recreation director, said, "We will be offering many different programs at the pool to include base swim team, youth day camp swimming, swim lessons, military training, and special programs such as private and themed pool parties."

The pool schedule is as follows:

Adult Lap Swim
· Monday through Friday from 1-6 p.m.

Recreational Swim
· Monday through Friday from 1-6 p.m.
· Saturday and Sunday from 12:30-6:30 p.m.

Swim Lessons
· Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Pool Parties
· Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 p.m. to midnight.
· Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 7 p.m. to midnight.

The Scott Sharks, a swim team open to ages 5-18, will begin practice May 31. Practices will be held at the Fitness Center Pool Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Meets begin in the middle of June, and they will compete against other local area teams Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Lessons will be held for all ages with the first session starting June 12. Swimmers will be evaluated at the first lesson and placed in the proper lesson level.

Hartung said that despite budget cuts, they're glad to have the opportunity to offer the Aquatics program to Team Scott this year.
