As part of Public Service Recognition Week, the Gateway Combined Federal Campaign honored several organizations from Scott Air Force Base at the Excellence in Government awards program May 9.

The Division Excellence Award was presented to Vanguard Division leadership--Maj. Paul Strom, Chair; Capt. David Prestwich, Vice Chair and Nicholas Weizman, Labor Chair. The Vanguard Division is made up of all units at Scott AFB. Vanguard was the only division in the Gateway CFC which totaled an increase in donations. Total contributions were up more than $54,000--almost 8 percent over the year prior.

Maj. Strom is with Air Mobility Command headquarters. Capt. Prestwich is with the 618th Air and Space Operations Center. Weizman represents the National Association of Government Employees Local R7-23, and works at the Air Force Network Integration Center.

Seven individuals and one team from Scott were presented walnut plaques for their excellence as well. The Campaign Representative award went to Anh Carlton from Defense Information Systems Agency. Totals for the three agencies which she managed as CR increased in each of the four years she has been involved, and the corresponding per capita gift increased also, to $134 per person, significantly above average.

From smaller agencies, those with fewer than 100 employees, at Scott, the CFC honored Tracy Holtgrave from U.S. Transportation Command headquarters, Command Support Group, and Master Sgt. Larry Strawn from AMC headquarters. Holtgrave served as Campaign Coordinator, and raised $11,080. Strawn was the driving force behind the $16,000 total raised in his office, almost double what they raised there the year before. Even though the number of employees went up, they were more generous also. They gave 50 percent more per person than in the previous year.

For mid-sized offices with 100 to 500 employees, awards were presented to Campaign Coordinator Capt. Jeffrey Dutmers who was at USTRANSCOM, Intelligence, and Keyworker Kevin Snider from USTRANSCOM headquarters, Acquisitions. Capt. Dutmers' office realized a 39 percent increase in contributions, in large part due to his efforts. He coordinated a used book sale that raised $625. Snider initiated the "breakfast burrito bonanza" to provide free breakfast to donors, and he organized a crock pot cook-off to build awareness of the campaign. It resulted in 74 percent of TCAQ employees participating in the CFC.

From large units with more than 500 employees on base, awards were presented to Master Sgt. Jerry Price, Air Mobility Command campaign coordinator and Staff Sgt. Bruce Weeks, a keyworker from the 375th Civil Engineer Squadron. Despite decreases in the number of employees in the unit, Master Sgt Price lead the AMC unit in raising $8,000 more than the year prior, a 13 percent increase. Weeks raised $8,000 from the 375th Civil Engineer Squadron.

The USTRANSCOM headquarters, Acquisitions team received two awards on one plaque. TCAQ employees donated $44,000 this year, a 30 percent increase over last year. And TCAQ provided several volunteers at the regional level in support of CFC. TCAQ received the Team Award and the Unit Leadership Excellence Award for mid-sized offices

Federal employees across the Gateway region contributed $2,972,891 to a variety of local and national charities during the 2012-2013 Combined Federal Campaign. The campaign slogan, "Give a Little, Help a Lot," set the theme for the hundreds of volunteers who gave their time to contact more than 37,000 federal employees working in the 97-county Gateway region. More details about the campaign, including an annual report with top charity designation totals, volunteers and federal offices receiving awards can be found at the Gateway CFC website: www.GatewayCFC.org.
