Workshop prepares troops, families for moving season Published June 26, 2013 By Senior Airman Jake Eckhardt 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Being afforded the opportunity to see the world is one of the selling points for the Air Force, but the hassle of preparing for a new place and moving can be stressful. To better prepare the servicemembers and their families who are about to move, Scott held the "Get Your Move On" workshop June 21. "This class is to help their move go smoothly and prepare them in case something comes up," said Monica Stouffer, Airman and Family Readiness Center community readiness consultant. The two-hour long workshop had speakers from the A&FRC, Exceptional Family Member Program, medical, TRICARE, finance office, personal property office, housing office, and Military Family Life Consultant educate the participants of the class on what their programs offer. The class also provided the servicemembers and families with some tips on moving and financial planning. The class is targeted toward first-term Airmen and families with children or pets. The A&FRC also offers one-on-one meetings for anyone who would like a more in-depth explanation of what was discussed during the class. Staff Sgt. Matthew Gross, 375th Security Forces and in-bound to Beale Air Force Base, said, "The class helped me remember what I need to do and what entitlements I have. I have moved once before, but it's been four years, so I forgot a lot of the information." Stouffer said that participants would benefit the most if they take the class two months before they depart Scott. Stouffer said, "Moving with the government is unlike any other organization. They have so many rules, regulations and entitlements. We want to make sure that they get through the process of leaving with everything that they need and are entitled to as easily as possible." The next class is Aug. 16. For more information, contact the A&FRC at 256-8668.
