Scott is one of three bases in the Air Force that is testing the use of iPads as part of its security and emergency response operations.

The Air Force Security Forces Center at the Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center trained the 375th Security Forces Squadron on the new technology they received for the DoD installation emergency management program June 10-14.

"The newly implemented technology will give situational awareness to first responders," said Charles Deatelhauser, AFSFC test evaluation coordinator.

The AFSFC implemented and trained the 375th SFS on use of iPads in parked vehicles and updated map capabilities to AtHoc.

Network computers will also have the ability to display a map of the base that will update people on situations like cordons or evacuation routes.

Bernard Lawson, AFSFC assessment team emergency manager, said, "It is all for the common operating picture to better understand how to feed and receive information."

The 375th SFS will be training through exercises with emergency management to prepare for the assessment Sept. 9-20.

Deatelhauser said, "Scott will provide data that will help influence the way the Air Force responds to and performs emergency operations."
