Options for medical care after normal business hours

If you are TRICARE Prime and your primary care manager is at the 375th Medical Group at Scott, and you need access to care after hours here are a few recommendations to get the care you need. If you believe it is an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. In an emergency situation a prior authorization is not required. Please consider an emergency as saving a life, saving a limb or saving eyesight, seek care as soon as possible.

In the immediate Scott area there are three facilities:

·         Memorial Hospital East, 1404 Cross St., Shiloh, (618) 607-1000;

·         Memorial Hospital West, 4500 Memorial Drive, Belleville, (618) 233-7750; and

·         St. Elizabeth Hospital, 211 South Third St., Belleville, (618) 234-2120.

In non-emergency situations after hours you are expected to call (800) TRICARE (874-2273) and speak to the Nurse Advice Line. The NAL will be able to assist in determining if there is an emergency or non-emergency situation and direct you to the appropriate level of care. If it is determined that you need urgent care the NAL may enter an urgent care referral.

TRICARE implemented the Urgent Care Pilot Program. The program expands the urgent care options for beneficiaries. Two urgent care visits are covered each fiscal year without a referral for TRICARE Prime members. The program does not apply to active duty service members. If you use your two visits you must contact the NAL or your PCM for an authorization prior to seeking urgent care services. If for some reason you cannot reach the on call provider you may call TRICARE at 1-877-TRICARE (874-2273) for a one-time urgent care authorization.

There are times when you just need medical advice and the Nurse Advice Line is an option for use after hours. The NAL will be able to assist in determining if there is an emergency or non-emergency situation and direct you the appropriate level of care. You can contact the NAL at 1-800-TRICARE (874-2273), option 1.
