Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a substance that is derived from the Cannabis sativa (hemp/marijuana) plant. Its implementation in products like oils, energy drinks and pet products have increased throughout the years, alongside its increasing availability to the average consumer. It is not authorized for use for Department of Defense employees because it is derived from marijuana, a Schedule 1 controlled substance under federal law. Many CBD products claim to contain 0% Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, the psychoactive substance in marijuana. Despite these claims, these products can contain THC in high concentrations. You must be diligent in detecting CBD in all products you use and the impacts using CBD can have on your career.
