After closing its doors early March amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Scott Air Force Base Thrift Shop reopened with augmented hours and services Aug. 4, 2020.

The new hours of operation for the Scott Thrift Shop are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Due to increased safety measures, the Thrift shop is currently not accepting consignments; however, guests are able to donate and purchase goods.

Each day, the shop is manned by two different crews of volunteers to ensure the safety of customers and volunteers. To safeguard the wellbeing of employees and patrons, the Thrift Shop is mandating masks, temperature checks and hand sanitation prior to entry.

“We’re doing everything we can to protect our volunteers [and customers],” said Jamie Messer, Scott Air Force Base Thrift Store manager. “We have to be careful with their health.”

In addition to temperature checks, the Thrift Shop is setting the building’s maximum occupancy to 15, and, in lieu of acrylic shields, plastic curtains have been set up as a protective barrier for volunteers.

The Thrift Shop is always looking for volunteers. As the shop opens up more, Friday volunteers will be especially needed, said Messer.

Those seeking to volunteer may do so by calling the Thrift Shop at 618-744-9441.
