Early contact with TMO helps moving process go smoothly

Moving can be a difficult and stressful time. To help, the Traffic Management Office provides a quick overview of the moving process for Team Scott this summer.

The process begins when a military member receives orders. One of the first things they should do is contact the Personal Property Processing Office's customer service line to learn about the Defense Personal Property System, or DPS. Once they've been counseled, they will print out an application for the shipment of their personal property.

According to Debbie Norsic, 375th Logistics Readiness Squadron transportation assistance, it's important to contact TMO as soon as orders are received because there must be at least three weeks of processing time between the date of shipment and the move.

"One of the common mistakes people make is not contacting our office immediately upon receipt of their orders," said Ms. Norsic. "This summer has been extremely busy, and there is a nationwide summer surge advisory, so there simply are not enough transportation service providers to accommodate all of the moves taking place."

By contacting the office as soon as orders are received, the member will help ensure they can schedule a date to pack and move their household goods before it's too late.
DPS is also an excellent place to find out what a member's rights and responsibilities are when it comes to moving.

"The member will be accurately briefed on rights and responsibilities in the DPS through the self-counseling process or with the assistance of a transportation counselor," said Ms. Norsic. "The quality control section is available for assistance when issues and questions take place during a move as needed."

TMO is also available to answer questions every step of the way.
