Scott hosts prayer breakfast

Scott hosted a National Prayer Breakfast on Feb. 24 with the theme of “Faith worked 100 years ago and faith works now.” The guest speaker for the event was Maj. Gen. Dondi Costin, Headquarters U.S. Air Force chief of chaplains. During the event Costin said, “Faith worked 3,000 years ago, the same way it worked 100 years ago, it will work 3,000 years from today and the message is this: God has designed us in such a way that we can overcome. God wants to be your resource if you’ll let him be. Faith works. What I encourage you to do is, work your faith.” Chaplain (Maj. Gen.) Dondi Costin, the Chief of Chaplains for the U.S. Air Force, gave the address for Scott’s National Prayer Breakfast Feb. 24, with the message that “Faith Works.” As a member of the special staff to the Air Force Chief of Staff, he establishes guidance and provides advice on all matters pertaining to the religious and moral welfare of Air Force personnel. During the event, 275 Scott AFB personnel, community clergy, and civic leaders gathered to hear how faith has worked through the ages. He said there are numerous scientific studies that show faith works through the ups and downs of life. There will be stressors in life; that’s a guarantee. When stressors come, faith is an anchor to keep people grounded and prevent them from toppling over. To take it a step further, faith has a positive and exponential effect on all the domains of Comprehensive Airman Fitness. It’s no one’s job to tell you what to have faith in, but what is clear is that everyone must have faith in something to weather the storms of life. This faith diversity was also highlighted at the breakfast. Religious representatives from the Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, and Christian faiths offered prayers in their own language and according to their own traditions. “Faith Works” is a message that Costin wants to convey to every Airman. So as local chaplains visit units, please anticipate a request to talk about how Faith Works. If anyone has any questions on the subject, please reach out to the chapel at 256-4060, and one of our chaplains would be eager to schedule an appointment with you.
