X-ray tech excels with kind care
Senior Airman Casey Burch inserts an IV into a patient before going into the CT scan at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., June 3, 2014. To ensure the IV is inserted properly, Burch checks for flashback, or blood in the tube. If there is flashback, the catheter can be advanced. The IV delivers contrast into the patient’s veins in order to highlight certain areas on the body when it is scanned, which makes it easier for the radiologist to see. Burch is a 375th Medical Support Squadron radiology technologist. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Maria Bowman)
