Sharon Wilda gives instructions on the high-elbow pull of the freestyle stroke at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., July 16, 2014. During a high-elbow pull, a swimmer’s hand will enter and leave the water at nearly the exact same point during a single stroke cycle, reducing frontal drag.
