MedStar providing service
SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- MedStar Ambulance took over emergency medical services for Scott Air Force Base Monday. A Medstar unit will be based at Scott 24 hours a day, housed at firehouse one. If and when that unit is on a call, a second unit will be posted on base to provide full coverage. The average call volume on Scott is about 30 calls per month. MedStar will serve an estimated 40,000 people living or working on Scott each day. The need for a private ambulance service on Scott is a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure, which caused the downgrade of the base hospital to a clinic and funding was removed to staff the base ambulances.
