Tech. Sgt. Joseph Nichols, a biomedical equipment technician deployed from the 375th Medical Support Squadron to the 455th Expeditionary Medical Support Squadron, assembled two dialysis machines at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, Oct. 5, 2010, allowing for the first-ever dialysis procedure in theater during current operations. Because of Sergeant Nichols' swift assembly of the machines and his knowledge of their operation, he was able to assist doctors in saving the life of a soldier who had been severely injured by an improvised explosive device blast just days prior.
