Retiree Appreciation Day

Army Col. Charles Jorgenson joined in 1970 as an enlisted maintainer to beat the draft, became a warrant officer in 1976, and transitioned to a commissioned officer in 1978. "I just stayed in," said Jorgenson. "And then it got to a point where there's actually a mandatory retirement day where you've got to get out. And I reached that, so they said, 'Get your butt out of here. Go do something else.' I retired in 20017, and the next day I went back to work for the government as a GS employee in the same job I was in before, and I'm still working for the government." For Jorgenson, working with soldiers, airmen, and sailors has always been the best part of his job, and his need to serve still continues to this day as he works on Scott AFB.
