Excellent Published Nov. 22, 2005 By Airman Brian Butkus 375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The 375th Airlift Wing has been called the Showcase Wing for quite some time. But Nov. 10 marked the day where personnel proved this name to be true. Members of the 375 AW gathered in the base theater 11 a.m. Nov. 10 for an Operational Readiness Inspection outbrief to learn the outcome of the Inspection General’s observations. With squadron guide-ons flying in the air and servicemembers chanting jodies the IG’s team members were introduced, and began naming off the grades for each area participating in the exercise. The grading was divided into four areas which included initial response, employment, mission support and the ability to survive and operate. Some situations that personnel faced when being graded by the IG were suspicious substance response, missile attacks (both conventional and chemical in nature), NBC detection, contamination avoidance measures and NBC reconnaissance. “We were not only charged with completing our day to day wartime jobs, but were tasked to perform door guard, post-attack reconnaissance sweeps, facility manager and Security Forces augmentee duty,” said Tech. Sgt. Daniel Moss, 375 CES Readiness Flight. Every facet of the personnel’s actions was watched with a close eye in order to ensure the grading was accurate and accountable. When the IG began reading off the grades for the individual areas of the exercise the theater was roaring with applause as one after another the overall grades for most areas were Excellent. One unit stood out amongst the 375 AW and that was the Civil Engineer Squadron. The 375 CES was the only unit to receive an Outstanding grade for there hard work, preparation and ability to do their job under even the harshest circumstances. “I am extremely proud of the work and preparation toward this ORI,” said Col. Raymond Rottman. “Everyone who participated came together as a team to contribute to this excellent results.” After the final grade was read the IG’s began giving recognition to various teams who excelled and individuals who went above and beyond their duties. To close out the outbrief Lt. Gen. William Welser, 18th Air Force commander, gave some words of encouragement to the crowd. “As I look out into this crowd I can see that Total Force is here to say,” said General Welser. “The key to a successful workforce is followership, teamwork and family and I can see this wing has it, and I am a proud to be a part of it.”
