Shiloh West Housing undergoes demolition Published July 20, 2007 By Tech. Sgt. Sabrina Foster 375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE Ill. -- July 12 marked a historic day at Scott and the Shiloh West housing community as the demolition of about 248 homes began. "The demolition phase should be completed near September," said Danny Storey, Construction Oversight Senior Inspector for MACTEC Engineering and Consulting Inc. "We are scheduled to begin construction of 140 new homes near December with a completion date of approximately June 2008," he said. The Shiloh West housing area was built in the 1960s and had never received any major upgrades. "We will re-build everything from the ground up," said Mr. Storey. "All the way down to the roads, sewers and infrastructure," he said. After it is all said and done, there will be about 140 new homes available for field grade officers. The newly constructed homes will be complemented by an amenities package comparable to those found in high-end, market-rate, master-planned housing developments, complete with fireplaces. "We frequently survey the local housing markets, so we know what is available," said Paula Baker, community director of The Landings at Scott. "Our construction partner, Hunt Building has built thousands of privatized and military construction housing units. They submitted a proposal, which was accepted by the Air Force, which specified features and amenities included in new and renovated homes." The homes will feature extra storage, walk-in closets, upgraded appliances and finishes, separate master bath with double sinks and fenced backyards. "We appreciate the patience of the community while the demolition is ongoing," said Mrs. Baker. "We can't wait to get our families into their new homes."
