Heritage to Horizons Published July 13, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Brian Butkus 375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Scott Air Force Base hosted its 2007 Air Show, Heritage to Horizons, celebrating the history, spirit and power of military aviation Saturday and Sunday. This year's event, in conjunction with Air Force Week, helped celebrate 60 years of the U.S. Air Force and 90 years of Scott Field. Scott opened its gates to the public at 9 a.m. Each day's flying began at 11 a.m. with the Army "Black Dagger" Parachute Demo team descending upon the runway with an American Flag as the national anthem was sung. After the national anthem, Col. Alan Hunt, 375th Airlift Wing commander gave the opening remarks. "I would like to welcome everyone to Joint Total Force Scott's 2007 Air Show, Heritage to Horizons," said Colonel Hunt. "This year is a historic year for the U.S. Air Force as well as Scott AFB," he said. "We have an excellent day planned for all of you in attendance today as we showcase some of our nation's finest aircraft. Please be safe, stay hydrated and enjoy the show!" Each day featured premiere acts and displays that included the F-15 and F-16 West Coast demonstration teams, the CV-22 Osprey, the GEICO Skytypers, a static display of a B-2 stealth aircraft and much more. Various base organizations and volunteers from across the base and the local community were on hand throughout the day to run food and refreshment stands to help cater to the general public's needs. "This is my second year attending the air show here," said Bill Chandler, of Mascoutah. "Living so close to Scott and driving by the base all the time peaks my curiosity. Being here today gives me a little glimpse into what goes on in the U.S. military." Scott's 2007 Air Show ended at 3 p.m. Sunday evening helping culminate the long histories of both the U.S. Air Force and Scott Field.
