SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. — Col. Scot Heathman, 375th Air Mobility Wing commander, held an all call recently for 350 dorm residents to get their feedback about living conditions and other issues they may be having.

He opened by saying that he and Chief Master Sgt. Leon Calloway, 375th AMW command chief, had been tracking what had been happening in the dorms for a couple months and were aware of recent mold issues stemming from an isolated incident surrounding the replacement of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

He stressed that the best way to get things fixed sooner was to bring them to the attention of the right people in the right forum.

“I want you to know that we can help you fix the issues. I just ask that you bring your issues to me, Chief Calloway, your leadership, your dorm manager or your dorm council—that’s why they are all here together today. I hope you feel you comfortable in doing that and confident that your concerns will be addressed promptly and appropriately,” he said.

He also made sure that they knew the dorm manager, Master Sgt. Latricia Munday, who announced that the dorms would also be receiving new washers and dryers as a result of recent feedback. Airmen with the Dorm Council also spoke about upcoming morale events such as the annual Dorm Olympics.

Dorm Council member Airman William Wang, 375^th Medical Operations Squadron, explained, “It’s important that dorm residents stay in contact with us, so we know what problems need to be addressed and brought up to leadership. The whole purpose of dorm council is to improve the quality of life for Airmen living in the dorms—there’s 300 of us, so if we want something done, we can make it happen.”

Airman 1^st Class Victoria Arbelaez, 375th Logistics Readiness Squadron, added, that she “appreciates the information on the status of the dorm from dorm management, and that the commander came to the meeting to address the mold issue. It was nice hearing from the commander directly about the big issues concerning the dorms.”
