MyMC2 app proves successful in first year Published May 15, 2013 By Tracy Gray 375th Communications Support Squadron SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- After one year of being on the market, the mobile calendar app called My Military Communities, or MyMC2, has now grown to being used at 44 bases worldwide with more than 27,000 users. "The app has far exceeded original expectations and has received an amazing response from across the Air Force and DoD," said 1st Lt. Andrew Villagran, a member of the 375th Communications Support Squadron and one of the developers. Created by the 375th CSPTS's Software Engineering Flight at Scott AFB, the app was the result of an AFSO21 problem-solving event related to Comprehensive Airman Fitness issues. The team was tasked to create a centralized place for people to go not only for events, but also for quick access to all the helping agencies on base. MyMC2 is the first mobile application in the Air Force that puts a list of events, organizations, and services at a base on a smartphone or tablet. The app pulls information from the multiple organizational Facebook pages that are officially associated with a base and consolidates them into one place. It's free to download from either the Android Market or Apple's App Store. In addition to these features, there are two quick-call buttons on the home page that can be programmed to whatever the installation commander feels are the most important numbers for Airmen to have. At Scott AFB, the two numbers are for the Armed Forces Against Drunk Driving and a suicide hotline so people have ready access to these critical helping agencies. Version 2.0 of MyMC2 is currently in development, incorporating suggestions received from users during the past year. Upcoming features include the ability to pull base information from multiple news feeds, including Twitter, in addition to Facebook; a MyMC2 Widget for Android devices to view and refresh news feeds; a more robust phonebook; and the ability for base MyMC2 administrators to push notifications to their base users. The content for the app is managed through base public affairs offices, and for more information or to view a video demonstration of the app visit www.scott.af.mil/library/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=19464 To download the app, go to your device's app store and search for "My Military Communities" or "MyMC2."
