2012 AIRSHOW FAQ AND FACTS

Will there be ATM machines available at the Air Show?
     An ATM will be located by the main air show entrance

Is handicap parking available, and how do I get it?
     Yes, handicap parking will be available for visitors. If your vehicle is displaying a handicap placard on the rear view mirror or has handicap license plates, you will be directed to a designated handicap parking location once you arrive on base. Individuals must display a placard to be allowed access.

Is there a street address I can use to put into my GPS to get to the base?
     Yes, you can use the address below, which will get you to the base. After you arrive on base you will be directed to parking:

Can I bring an umbrella to the airshow?
     Yes, small rain umbrellas are allowed to be used. Large beach type umbrellas are not allowed.

Is there handicap parking and transportation from the parking lot?
     Yes, there is handicap parking available and is located across the street from the from the airshow/flightline entrance.

Is it safe (regarding the noise) for me to come with a baby?
     The flying portion of the airshow will be very loud and will last for several hours. We encourage everyone to bring some type of hearing protection.

I am disabled, can i use a four-wheeled cart, ATV or buggy at the airshow?
     Motorized wheelchairs and similar small devices are allowed, but ATV's, golf carts or similar modes of transportation are not allowed for safety reasons.

I have a military ID card/flightline badge, can I come out to look at the aircraft on Friday?
     No, to ensure safety only essential personnel will be allowed on the flightline for airshow and military operations. we will have aircraft landing and moving on the flightline and displays being set up all day Friday in preparation for the airshow.  Non-essential personnel who do not normally work on the flightline will be turned away by security forces.

Can I fly my general aviation aircraft to Mid-America Airport to watch the show?
     The Scott Air Force Base side of the airfield will be closed for any aircraft that are not part of the show. However, Mid-America Airport on the other side of the airfield will allow aircraft to fly in on their side. If you are interested, contact Paul at the Mid-America FBO at (618)566-5320 to get more details.

Will all the performers be flying on both days?
     If we know in advance that a performer will only fly on one day, that information will be listed on the information page of that performer. At the top of the page where it says "Fly during show." We will note if it will just be performing one day by listing the day it will be performing.

What does it mean when it says "Display Open To Public: No?"
    This means the aircraft is only at the show to perform, so visitors can not walk up to this aircraft.

An aircraft was listed on the website, but it's no longer there. Where did it go?
     When an aircraft or act is confirmed we post the information on our website. However, there are times when they may have to cancel due to military operations or schedule conflicts. When this happens we remove the listing on the website to ensure we provide the most current information as possible.

I can't find the schedule of when each aircraft is going to fly. Where is it posted?
     The flying times of each performer can be accessed through the information page.

The website mentions no smoking on the flightline. What is the flightline, and where can I smoke?
     The flightline is the gated area where the hangars and aircraft are located (not the base gates). Smoking areas are posted and will be across the street from the flightline entrance.

What kind of ID do we need to enter the base for the airshow?
     ID is not required to enter the base or the flightline areas for the airshow on the days of the airshow.

Will I be able to go inside the aircraft or sit in the pilots seat?
     Most of the airshow aircraft will be open to the public. Access to each aircraft or display is at the discretion of the crew or owner. Some aircraft such as fighters will allow spectators to view the cockpit but not sit in the seats due to the ejection seats.

Is it safe to come to the airshow?
     Safety is always a primary concern at airshows. You will notice extra uniformed security presence at the airshow. This consists of Air Force security forces and local law enforcement officers.

If I cannot bring something into the airshow, can I go out to my car during the show?
     Yes, since the show has no admission fee, you may leave and re-enter as you desire so you can have coolers and food in your cars. All persons re-entering will have to go through security checkpoints again.

Can I bring my camera/video camera/cellphone/scanner?
    Yes, there are no restrictions on electronics. However, large camera bags will be searched thoroughly. bring only necessary camera equipment, leaving excess equipment at home.

Can I bring water, drinks or food?
     Only water is allowed to be brought into the show as long as it is hand carried and are not in a cooler or carry bag. All items brought in are subject to approval by gate security personnel and a hand-search at the gate. Camelbak type water packs are allowed.

Can I bring a folding chair or blankets?
     Yes, folding chairs and blankets may be brought into the show, but are subject to search.

I have small children. Can I bring a stroller/diaper bag/cloths/etc.?
     Yes, strollers and wagons will be hand-searched at the gate. Please bring only necessary items in a small diaper bag. Large diaper bags may not be permitted. You can return to your vehicle during the show to retrieve extra cloths or restock diaper items.

Who is flying at this year's show?
     A list of performers currently scheduled to participate in this years show can be found on the performers page.

Is there shade at the airshow?
     Limited shade is available under the wings of some of the larger aircraft and in the large hangar. You should plan on being in the sun most of the time during your visit to the airshow. Come prepared with  hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

If it rains will the show be cancelled?
     The airshow will not necessarily be cancelled on account of rain. Lightning could prohibit safe airshow operations and may result in temporarily suspending the airshow. Flying acts will perform weather permitting. Aircraft displays and vendor booths will still be open in the even of rain.

Will there be food and gift vendors at the show?
     Yes, a wide range of food and gift items will be available for purchase at the airshow.

Are coolers allowed?
     Coolers are not allowed on airshow grounds for security reasons, but can be left in your car if you would like. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the airshow.

Are backpacks and bags permitted?
     Because of security reasons, backpacks and bags are not permitted. Purses and other small bags are subject to search. Medical packs are the only exceptions . Camera specific backpacks and Camelbak type packs will be allowed.

Is smoking permitting at the airshow?
     For the safety of our guests and due to the volatile nature of aircraft and fuels, smoking of any kind (cigarettes, cigars, pipes) will be permitted outside of the flightline area in designated areas only. Please ensure to dispose of butts in proper containers as they become a potential hazard to aircraft if sucked up in the engine intakes.

Can I bring my pet?
     No, pets of any kind are allowed on airshow grounds. Please leave your pets at home, and do not leave your pet in your vehicle when you come into the show.

Can my kids bring their bikes, skates, scooters or skateboards?
     Bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and inline skates are not permitted on airshow grounds.

Is there any RV or tent camping allowed on the base?
     No, due to security reasons there is no RV or tent camping allowed on the base for the general public.

Is tailgating allowed?
     Tailgating is not allowed due to security reasons.

Will restroom facilities be easily accessible?
     Yes. Portable restrooms will be located throughout the airshow grounds.

Can I take pictures or get autographs?
     Yes. Many of the performers make themselves available for autographs and pictures during the show.

Will it be necessary to have hearing protection?
     This event will have jets that take off, land, and perform most of the day. Hearing protection should be the same as you would use at any event that will be extremely loud. Visitors to the Air Show are encouraged to bring some form of hearing protection with them.

What items are not allowed to be brought to the airshow?
     - No pets are allowed at the airshow - please do not leave your pet in your vehicle.
     - Weapons of any kind including:
   pocket knives
   pocket tools
   scissors
   box cutters
   nun chucks
   billy clubs
   large, heavy chain-link jewelry or belts 
   mace and pepper spray
     - Firearms of any type
     - Toys that resemble firearms
     - Fireworks
     - Spray paint and Silly String
     - Glass containers of any kind
     - Alcohol
     - Illegal Drugs
     - Bicycles 
     - Skateboards
     - Roller Skates or Rollerblades
     - Coolers
     - Ruc sacks, backpacks

Are tents or awning permitted?
     Tents and awnings are not allowed on the flightline because they pose a hazard to aircraft engines due to the risk the wind carrying them into operating engines. The large Hangar is available to walk around in for temporary relief from the sun.
