COLONEL (Dr.) BRET D. BURTON

Colonel Bret Burton is the Commander of the 375th Medical Group, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. He oversees the health care delivered to over 23,000 beneficiaries by 450 active duty as well as 300 civilian and contract personnel. The medical group enables combat power for the 375th Air Mobility Wing by ensuring medically ready Airmen and providing superior healthcare delivery plus unrivaled medical support for Air Mobility Operations. The members are responsible for an Advanced Education in General Dentistry, a unique military-civilian combined Family Medicine Residency, and two enlisted training programs in Medical Laboratory and Diagnostic Ultrasound. The organization is designated as a pilot unit for the Mobile Aeromedical Staging Facility, enabling the mission of the Air Mobility Command's Surgeon General. Finally, the unit's Medical Equipment Repair Center sustains 38 DoD sites over a 12-state region in addition to Air Mobility Command's $11.6M Patient Movement Item program.

Dr. Burton entered the Air Force in 1993 after completing the R.O.T.C. program at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas and earning his medical degree at the University Health Sciences Center in San Antonio. He trained at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center and is a board certified pediatrician and physician executive with 19 years of clinical experience. He was appointed as Chief of Pediatrics in both overseas and CONUS locations before his consecutive positions as Chief of the Medical Staff in outpatient clinic and community hospital settings. Colonel Burton has served as a squadron commander and most recently as a headquarters staff officer consulting with interagency and joint services as an agency director. He and his wife Kathy, have three sons.
